Transgenerational Epigenetic Inheritance
نویسنده
چکیده
Recent fi ndings in the emerging fi eld of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance suggest that the lifestyle choices and experiences of an individual have biological implications for offspring not yet conceived. Studies show that diet, drugs, and even social experiences can lead to life-long changes in gene expression. Some changes in gene expression are passed down to future generations. These conclusions deserve careful analysis from Christians trained in science who should teach freedom from epigenetic determinism, the fallenness and blessing displayed in the results, and the limits of the new fi eld. Christian communities generally should show special grace to those that are epigenetically burdened, work to liberate victims from destructive epigenetic cycles, and prepare a healthful epigenetic inheritance for their children.

Onm-19: Role of Epigenetic in Transgenerarional Disease
Epigenetic alterations have been related to many biological processes and disease; however, the global epigenetic status of most cell types has not been investigated yet in detail. The ability of environmental factors to promote a phenotype or disease state not only in the individual exposed but also in subsequent progeny for successive generations is termed transgenerational inheritance. The m...
متن کاملDevelopmental origins of epigenetic transgenerational inheritance
Environmental factors can induce epigenetic alterations in the germ cells that can potentially be transmitted transgenerationally. This non-genetic form of inheritance is termed epigenetic transgenerational inheritance and has been shown in a variety of species including plants, flies, worms, fish, rodents, pigs, and humans. This phenomenon operates during specific critical windows of exposure,...
متن کاملTransgenerational epigenetic inheritance in mammals: how good is the evidence?
Epigenetics plays an important role in orchestrating key biologic processes. Epigenetic marks, including DNA methylation, histones, chromatin structure, and noncoding RNAs, are modified throughout life in response to environmental and behavioral influences. With each new generation, DNA methylation patterns are erased in gametes and reset after fertilization, probably to prevent these epigeneti...

This review describes new developments in the study of transgenerational epigenetic inheritance, a component of epigenetics. We start by examining the basic concepts of the field and the mechanisms that underlie epigenetic inheritance. We present a comprehensive review of transgenerational cellular epigenetic inheritance among different taxa in the form of a table, and discuss the data containe...
متن کاملEnvironmental stress and epigenetic transgenerational inheritance
Previous studies have shown a wide variety of environmental toxicants and abnormal nutrition can promote the epigenetic transgenerational inheritance of disease. More recently a number of studies have indicated environmental stress can also promote epigenetic alterations that are transmitted to subsequent generations to induce pathologies. A recent study by Yao and colleagues demonstrated gesta...
متن کاملTransgenerational epigenetic effects.
Transgenerational epigenetic effects include all processes that have evolved to achieve the nongenetic determination of phenotype. There has been a long-standing interest in this area from evolutionary biologists, who refer to it as non-Mendelian inheritance. Transgenerational epigenetic effects include both the physiological and behavioral (intellectual) transfer of information across generati...
